SPRING 2010

Spring Citywide Garage Sale: For the treasure seeker in your family!! For more information, contact the Lamar Democrat at 417-682-5529. 2010 event planned for April 24.

Annual Meeting & Banquet: The highlight of the evening will be our Annual Awards Presentations: Business of the Year, Health Care Provider, Volunteer Spirit, The Truman Award, Educator of the Year, and Employee of the Year. Eligible nominees are Chamber members and their employees. Stop by the Chamber office to submit your award nominations or to make reservations for the banquet. Truman Day Celebration at the Birthplace: Join us in the celebration Harry S Truman with refreshments and programming from the Birthplace staff and living history programs, with many other activities. For more information, contact Pam Myers at 417-682-2279. 2010 event planned for May 8.

Truman Day around the Historical Lamar Square: There will be Arts and Crafts, Food vendors and many activities for everyone displayed around the Historic Lamar Downtown Square. Contact Cheryl Flores for more information at 417-682-3595 . 2010 event planned for May 8.

4th Thursday Music/Food at the Bandstand: Every 4th Thursday of the month from May through September you can bring a lawn chair and come join us at the Bandstand on the Lamar Historical Downtown Square to listen to musical entertainment. A local civic group will be serving a meal as a fundraiser. Come enjoy an old fashion summer evening with music and friends. 2010 evernt planned for May 27

SUMMER 2010

Barton County Day at the Ballpark: The Chamber's 4th annual Barton County Day at the Ballpark will take place at the home of the Springfield Cardinals, one of the minor league teams of the St. Louis Cardinals. 2010 event planned for June 13.

Barton County Relay for Life: Relay for Life is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society in any community, large or small, and to raise awareness of cancer and the work of the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life concept involves teams of 10-15 individuals from businesses, organizations, or other affiliations throughout our community. Relay for Life will be held at the Lamar City Park, where one team member walks, jogs, or runs around the path by the closed shelter in the park. Here's your opportunity to join the fight against cancer in the 9th Annual Barton County Relay For Life. For more information, contact Tiffany Hayworth at 417-214-5380. 2010 July 10.

Chamber Golf Tournament: Enjoy a day of golf at the Lamar Country Club. If you are interested in sponsoring a hole or playing, contact the Chamber at 417-682-3595. 2010 event planned for July 23. The rain date is TBA

Barton County Free Fair: Known as one of Missouri's largest free fair event (no gate fees!), the Lamar historic downtown square is transformed into a festival area of immense proportions. Events include Queen Contest, Kid’s Fun Night by the Lamar Saddle Club, mid-way carnival, baby contest, a variety of food by local civic organizations, live music, ugly truck contest, antique car show in the park, two large parades, and 4-H display of art, floriculture, livestock, home economics and much more. FALL 2010

Golden Harvest Days in Golden City, MO: Golden City’s annual community festival featuring a parade, baby contest, musical entertainment, car & cycle show, slideshow, queen contest, quilt contest, cooking contest for kids, concession stands, games, BBQ, state chili cook-off, and much more. This event is located downtown Golden City and at the city park. Golden City will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary. Liberal Prairie Days in Liberal, MO: Liberal’s annual community fall festival featuring a horse pull, homemade ice cream contest, baby contest, parade, arts and craft, live music, and much more. This event is located downtown and at the city park Liberal, MO. Most events are free to the public. Lamar Fall Citywide Garage Sale: For the treasure seeker in your family - many households in the community make West-Central Missouri's largest event worthwhile. For more information, contact the Lamar Democrat at 417-682-5529. 2010 event planned for September 25.

Prairie Jubilee: Held every other year at the Prairie State Park near Liberal, Missouri, this day-long prairie festival features such activities as a wilderness campout in the tallgrass prairie and traditional-themed music and dancing. A Living History Loop will feature a pioneer family with a covered wagon, one-tent school, country doctor, historical surveyor, early settler, trappers with tepee, and pioneer game exhibitions. Contests and guided wagon tours to view the bison are also included in the festivities. Lunch is served at concessions by local civic groups. Apple Days: Lamar’s fall community festival featuring crafts, fall produce (apples, pumpkins, mums, et al), musical entertainment, pony rides in the Courthouse parking lot, and a variety of food . Halloween Hullaballoo: Trick or treat the merchants around the Lamar Square. There will be a Costume Contest and a hayride through town. CHRISTMAS/WINTER 2010

Home for the Holidays: After the Christmas Parade, experience the holiday season’s lighting of the beautiful downtown Courthouse Square, merchant open house events and special bargains, and much more. Miss Merry Christmas Pageants: Little, young, and teen girls all enjoy competing for the titles of Little Miss Christmas, Junior Miss Merry Christmas and Miss Merry Christmas. Holiday Homes Tour: Enjoy touring beautiful homes decked out in Christmas Grandeur from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Find great gift and decorating ideas while experiencing the enchantment of the season. 2010 TBA

Santa Train: Santa arrives by rail, on a Saturday afternoon (arriving about 4:15 p.m.), aboard the Missouri & Northern Arkansas train.
